Zack Snyder to helm The Man of Steel.
Zack Snyder has been chosen to direct the new installment of Superman for Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures. He is an important filmmaker for Warner Bros., a visual stylist whose efforts for the studio include 300, Watchmen, and the upcoming Sucker Punch.
Snyder was on a short list of directors that Deadline revealed recently, who met with the studio and producer Christopher Nolan. WB wants Nolan to do for Superman what he did for Batman. Snyder beat out directors Tony Scott (Man On Fire), Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) and Duncan Jones (Moon) for this coveted gig.
No word yet on who would play Superman, but it appears Superman Returns star Brandon Routh will not be asked back. As soon as Snyder was announced, all focus went to who would be the villain. It appears General Zod is the baddie of choice. In the 1980 movie Superman II, Zod was the villain and his catch phrase “Kneel before Zod!” is still being used. Jude Law was rumored to be playing General Zod in a sequel to Superman Returns, but that deal feel apart when WB was less than thrilled with the box office returns of the new Superman.
Christopher Nolan is pulling superhero double duty with the next installment in his Batman franchise, which he is directing, and now with this new Superman movie entitled The Man Of Steel. Can’t wait to see what he can do for Clark Kent.
