Penelope Cruz is taking it all off for the cameras, this time in PETA‘s spicy anti-cruelty to animals campaign. The actress goes naked and graces a 70 ft. billboard atop Madison Square Garden, just in time for the New York Fashion Week. The ad shows Cruz as she gazes at the camera over her shoulder with a come-hither look and the tag-line: “Give fur the cold shoulder.”
The Pirates of the Caribbean star now joins a list of female celebrities, including FLOTUS Michelle Obama, Eva Mendez, Olivia Munn, and the French Prime Minister’s wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, to speak out wearing fur.
PETA‘s Yvonne Taylor says: “Penelope Cruz has appeared on every ‘best-dressed’ list in the world, and the one thing you’ll never see her wearing is fur.”
She adds: “One couldn’t ask for a more fitting emblem of the modern, glamorous woman who knows that there’s nothing more beautiful than a woman who has a look that kills without anyone having to die for it.”
Cruz and her husband Javier Bardem have rescued many cats and dogs from adoption shelters, and she has frequently turned up at press junkets and interviews with one of her four-legged friends. During her early days in Hollywood, cats saved the young actress from loneliness.”I would find cats in the street and take them with me,” she confessed in a Vogue interview. “I raised a lot of cats in that period.”
