As much as I love American Idol and all those awesome singing contest shows, somehow I die a little inside when I consider all of these rock stars and pop stars I know and love going for these judging gigs. But then again, we all have to have a “day” job right? And there are those like me that remain addicted to these shows, no matter how repetitious they become.
So, hearing Aerosmith guitarist, Joe Perry, confess that Steven Tyler’s judging gig on American Idol might actually be good for the band warms my heart. With their new album and with some fresh faced teenie boppers opening their eyes to the world of music and maybe, hopefully, fingers crossed…actually LIKING Steven Tyler (and the band’s music), the band is bound to see a rejuevination of life into their music careers. (By the way, Steven Tyler quoted that Aerosmith sales went up 260 percent last year…good gig? I’d say definitely!)
So, while Joe Perry finishes off that huge plate of crow being served to him, how are the other day job pop celeb’s fairing in their judging gigs?
Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5, and the “The Voice”
Okay, I don’t know about you, but I have a love/hate relationship with Maroon 5 and Christina’s new song, “Moves Like Jagger.” But, with that said, we can’t deny the boost of career this gave Christina. And we can’t deny the fact that it did make the Billboard’s top ten “year-end” charts. Could it have something to do with the success of “The Voice” which will be returning February 5th? It could be a fluke, of course (or not!).
Nicole Scherzinger from the X-Factor
This may be more of a sign of what NOT to do with your judging day job, but this is more proof that having one of these “day jobs” can really have an impact on how the public sees you. Remember Nicole’s decision to not vote on America’s favorite, Rachel Crow? Well, not only was she blamed, but plenty of people wanted her fired (even though Rachel keeps insisting that it wasn’t Nicole’s fault…yah, right.) And you know, now that we’re mentioning it, I can’t say I’ve seen Nicole around much lately…but like I said, though, it might be a fluke.
Jennifer Lopez from American Idol
Steven Tyler isn’t the only one feeling the love from American Idol. Jenny from the Block is too, and I don’t know about you, but that must feel good to have that type of recognition, especially after her break up with hubby Marc Anthony (Wouldn’t we all love that after a break up? Millions of fans sending their love and support?)
Want to continue feeling the love singing competitions? Then, don’t forget American Idol fans, the new season starts Wednesday from 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM.
