Daddy is ready to party! New dad and hip hop star Jay-Z made his first public appearance since the birth of his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, on January 7. According to Hollyscoop, the rapper re-launched his New York City nightclub, 40/40. The evening was a celebration of the arrival of Baby Blue, though Jay’s wife of three years, superstar Beyoncé, was not in tow.
Jay-Z apparently laid on a champagne tower create with 350 handmade gold Armand de Brignac bottles stretching from floor to ceiling and was topped with a baby-carrying stork.
A source said: “All that preparation must have been thirsty work – judging from the champagne tower Jay laid on. Nothing like that has ever been created before. It was a bit OTT but he’s mad about his daughter. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for her. You’d expect nothing less from the richest man in rap.”
Of course, the evening was a star-studded night! Celebrity guests included Alex Rodriguez, Alicia Keys, and some members of the New Jersey Nets (which Jay is co-owner of) as well as the Yankees. Ashanti and director Spike Lee were also in attendance.
“Security was phenomenal,” a source told the Daily Mirror. “With guests being frisked at the door and people going through metal detectors to make sure no weapons were brought in for the club’s grand re-opening.”
It’s only been almost two weeks since Blue Ivy popped up on the scene (with the little princess already having a feature on a track!), but I am really, REALLY excited to see Beyoncé out and about again! Congrats to Jay for the re-launch of the 40/40 Club!
