Musician Rick Webster is a musical force to be reckoned with, and his latest EP proves the music that brought success the first time around was no fluke. The first EP, Rick Webster, was released in 2011 and featured many of the influences that brought him acclaim, including his tutelage as a jazz aficionado. The EP scored nominations at the WAM Awards for best jazz act and jazz song of the year in 2012. Not resting on his laurels, Rick Webster quickly followed up this EP with The Rick Webster Project.
For those that love the timeless musical essence of groups like Steely Dan, these influences can best be heard on the first track off the EP, ‘Write for Me’. The essence of being a singer-songwriter is vibrantly felt on the track ‘Long Way Home‘, with Allira Wilson’s vocals adding just the right touch. For those that are eager to hear more jazzy offerings from the band, they can be satiated with a taste of it on the closing track, ‘Already Mine’.
Rick Webster has achieved a loyal following through tireless touring. A native of Perth, Australia, his background in jazz was cemented at the Academy of Performing Arts. He is known as one of the most professional guitarists in Australia and his works have gained him recognition throughout the industry. His musical chops awarded him the John Lennon Songwriting Competition for the jazz category, and he was also a finalist in the American Songwriting Competition last year. The artistry his band exudes on stage has been compiled and placed on a live DVD, which features over two hours of music – improvisation and interaction with the crowd being standouts from this musical feature. For fans of true artistry and musicality, The Rick Webster Project delivers.
