Tonight is the night we get to see Rihanna discuss the Chris Brown assault in painful details. What exactly happened that night? What started the fight? What was she thinking after Brown smacked her? We get the answers to the questions we’ve been waiting to know for months from the songstress herself. Read more about the 20/20 Rihanna interview below.
The night of February 7th was one in which Rihanna vividly remembers and I am sure wants to forget. In the 20/20 interview that has peeps talkin’, RiRi speaks about that night and answers those questions we have been dying to know. Read some of the highlights below.
So what was going through her mind in that car that fateful night when he was smacking her? Rihanna says, “When is it going to stop? When is it going to stop? He had no soul in his eyes. Just blank. He was clearly blacked-out. There was no person when I looked at him.” Basically he looked like a freakin’ psycho. Eeek!
Another question we wanted to know that Rihanna does answer is just how and why did the fight between the young couple start? Rumors earlier this year had various media outlets thinking that it had to do with Brown receiving a text message from another woman while they were driving away from a Grammy Awards party. And yes, that IS the reasoning behind the madness.
She says, “I caught him in a lie, and he wouldn’t tell the truth. And I wouldn’t drop it. I couldn’t take that he kept lying to me, and he couldn’t take that I wouldn’t drop it … It escalated into him being violent towards me. And it was ugly.”
How ugly? Well, we all saw that in that TMZ photo. “I was battered, I was bleeding, I was swollen in my face.”
She felt trapped. “My next option was to get out of the car and walk, start walking in a gown and a bloody face. I didn’t have a plan. That whole night was not part of my plan.”
So how did she break things off with Brown? “The more in love we became, the more dangerous we became for each other, equally dangerous. Because it was a bit of an obsession…Love doesn’t go away right away. He didn’t accept that very well. Obviously he didn’t want us to be apart. But I had to make a decision for me.”
Does she hate Brown now? “No, I don’t hate him at all. I actually love and care about him. I want him to do well, have a great career, have a great life and grow up. And just take this as something you had to go through to grow up and learn.”
So why is she talking about this whole ordeal NOW before her album release? Apparently this isn’t a PR ploy. Rihanna states, “I knew I had to do this in order to move on for me and in order for my fans to move on with me because it would always be a question in their mind. I don’t want that five years from now every time they see Rihanna, they think of Chris Brown beating me. That’s not who I am. It’s just one thing that happened to me.”
