Celebs took to the streets on Sunday to help raise money for AIDS charities. This year marks the 27th anniversary of the walk.
The 6.2 mile walk began in the morning in West Hollywood Park at the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Melrose Ave. Fundraising efforts brought in over $3,005,014 to fight AIDS and provide vital care for people living with HIV in Los Angeles.
Prior to the official start of the walk, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa addressed the crowd. He said it was a great opportunity for the city to come together and remember loved ones lost. Other celebrity guests at the event included host Drew Carey, Cloris Leachman, Carson Kressley (who took a break from DWTS rehearsals), Glee’s Dot Marie Jones, NCIS’s Pauley Perrette among others.
The Los Angeles Times reports that over 32,000 people have died in Los Angeles County due to the deadly disease. Approximately 63,000 area residents are currently living with HIV or AIDS.
