Bethany Mota Talks YouTube Success for Seventeen

Seventeen magazine is going to be the first major women’s magazine to dedicate an issue to big stars on YouTube, including beauty and fashion YouTuber Bethany MotaBethany has been a huge success with her own channel dedicated to beauty, fashion and DIY tutorials, gaining over 7 million subscribers! Soon the YouTuber will also be featured on Season 19 of Dancing with the Stars as well.

Featured on the cover of the mag, Bethany talked about her success story and her hope for other girls in the world. Check out some of the highlights below!

How being bullied inspired Bethany  to start filming beauty videos when she was 13:
“It was so cool seeing girls being positive and spreading happiness. At first, I made beauty videos that were like everyone else’s –- I’d try to act perfect. But then I realized it might be more fun if I was just myself. So I showed my silly side and kept in the bloopers. I liked those videos way more, and people appreciated that realness.”

What it’s been like to grow up on YouTube:
“I think it’s taught me to be a lot more self-motivated and has taught me how to encourage myself and not rely on a teacher or a boss telling me what to do. I’m my own boss. My biggest thing to overcome has been not being afraid to be different. It’s safer to do what everyone else is doing, but it pays off way more to be yourself.”

Her advice for other girls who are trying to find their place in the world:
“You have to be your own motivator! A lot of teens say they’re bored. Before I got on YouTube, I’d say the same thing. But there is always something you can be doing. If YouTube isn’t your thing, maybe it’s a sport or something else you’re good at. There’s always something you can be the best at –- you just have to look for it.”

You can check out Seventeen.com for more! I’ve checked out some of Bethany’s work, and she’s a very charismatic and real young woman who is making an impact doing what she loves. Go her!

Simon Cowell Has New Way To Find Big Stars

We all know that Simon Cowell is an industry gawd and he makes more money than he knows what to do with. And yeah, he has contributed a whole hell of a lot to the music business. So now that he is absent from Idol he has had a bit more time on his hands to do some thinking…some brainstorming. And you’ll never guess what he decided to come up with now.

The You Generation.

Yes, that is what it is called…the YOU Generation, basically a YouTube channel project that he will showcase new up and coming artists.

So here’s the deal, artists who want to be the next big star can upload their audition videos and sing, dance, style, cook or do whatever they so choose (within reason, of course) to get the attention of the big man.

Already, there are a HUGE number of subscribers with their eyes and ears ready to hear what Simon is looking for.

According to Reuters, You Generation territories were listed as Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Belgium, Ireland, Netherlands, Britain, Czech Republic, France, Israel, Poland, Russia, Spain, Canada, the United States, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil.

Walk Off The Earth’s Cover of “Somebody That I Used To Know” Surpasses 100 Million Views!

Walk Off The Earth’s massively popular YouTube cover of Gotye featuring Kimbra’s smash hit “Somebody That I Used To Know” has passed the 100 million view mark, making it the most popular cover song ever posted on YouTube. Pretty impressive!

The creative video features all five band members playing one guitar and has helped to rapidly launch the Canadian group into online stars. The band performed the song on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this year, and the clip of that performance has been viewed nearly 2.5 million times.

Their “Somebody That I Used To Know” cover single has been certified Platinum in Canada, and sold over 165k copies in the US.

The band have released dozens of other covers, and fans have responded to Walk Off The Earth’s clever arrangements and beautiful harmonies. Their recent covers of the Weeds theme song “Little Boses” )originally performed by Malvina Reynolds) and The Beatles’ “From Me To You” have each gotten over 3 million views. And their latest is a cover of Nirvana’s “Polly” that is already at over 1 million views on YouTube, and is available starting today on iTunes.

America’s Got Talent Season Premiere on May 14

Hey reality show fans! It’s that time again. Time for the reality show we all know and love – America’s Got Talent. I have been looking forward to this freakin’ show all year, I swear.

Especially with the newest judge, Howard Stern. Now, I’m the first to admit when I heard he was replacing Piers Morgan that I was horrified. And disgusted. But now that the new season will be starting soon, I’m a little excited.

But, I’m imagining that the America’s Got Talent producers and creators are cringing a little over their decision to bring on Howard Stern, because the PTC (Parents Television Council) are encouraging advertisers to protest against paying for slots on the show.

I’m certain the intention for them is to take down the show and ruin ratings, but I’m certain that will not only NOT work, but it is bound to help the show. Keep protesting it, and I’m certain it will cause all of us to pay that much more attention to the shock jock’s newest gig.

But all that Stern-hate aside, I think he might be a nice addition to the team and it will be interesting to see how the dynamic plays out between him and the other judges. I remember last year Howie Mandel was famous for playing tricks on Piers Morgan, so I wonder if he would be able to do the same with Howard Stern. But Mandel shows his intimidation…err…I mean support of the “King of all Media” (Stern’s words, not mine) saying, “There is nobody more thrilling to be working with Howard than me…I think he is one of the brightest people I know.”

So, will you be tuning in this year? Or are you protesting Howard Stern’s presence?

America’s Got Talent premiere’s Monday, May 14 at 8 PM ET on NBC. Also, if you still want to be on the show, the YouTube auditions are going down and the deadline for them is June 1st. So go on, you talented person you, go for it! You know you want to!

Hours of entertainment with YouTube Sensations and Snookie! (VIDEO)

Last night, we saw some fabulous performances on America’s Got Talent from Internet sensations, including Tay Zonday, Nick and Keenan Cahill, Ok Go and Pilobolous, Rebecca Black and Up & Over.

But that’s not all the fun that NBC was dishing out last night, because Jimmy Fallon continued to fuel his Jersey Shore obsession with a late night chat with the one and only Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi on Late Night.

Check out a few clips from AGT and Late Night below!
