Lauryn Hill’s Tax Evasion Tour In the Works

As we predicted, Lauryn Hill is about to start singing for her supper again!

The recently sprung ex-Fugees member was recently released from the clink for tax evasion and now that her three months is up, Hill is looking to make some cash to pay off the balance and feed her children (she had 5 the last time we counted).

According to sources, Hill was set to have home detention for the next three months, but she has asked the judge presiding over her case to give her permission to perform and make some money and he bought it. With that out of the way, Lauryn is busy trying to promote her new single and book venues to promote it.

Hey, it’s either this or sing ‘No Woman, No Cry’ on the sidewalks and we cannot have our hip hop legends doing that, right?!

Fat Joe: Prison Bound

Another rapper bites the dust!

Fat Joe, aka Joseph Cartagena, will be spending the next four months in Miami’s Federal Detention Center for tax evasion. And instead of fleeing the scene off the crime and wasting more tax payer money, the rapper turned himself in to Uncle Sam.

According to reports, Fat Joe forgot to ante up all the dinero back in 2007 and 2008 to the IRS…to the tune of more than $1 million dollars. And like just about any hip hop star can tell you, Uncle Sam does not P L A Y when it comes time to pay. And Mr. Cartagena should be breathing a sigh of relief as he was originally sentenced to two years in jail for his crimes. He’s now had everything reduced to four months, $15,000 in fines, and one year of supervised release.

Teresa & Joe facing 50 years in prison?

teresa giudice

We knew Teresa Giudice and husband Joe were in a mess of trouble, but suddenly “mess” doesn’t seem like an accurate description. Today the couple was hit with a 39 count indictment. Let’s let that sink in…. 39 counts.

That’s not a “mess of trouble”, that’s a sh*t storm.

According to TMZ, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced the charges today, which range from tax evasion to bank fraud . The indictment claims that the couple committed multiple counts of bank and tax fraud from 2001-2008.

Specifically, that they overestimated their income in order to illegally obtain multiple mortgage loans from multiple banks, defrauding those banks of millions. It also alleges that the couple withheld information vital to their Chapter 7 filing in 2009, and that Joe had failed to file tax returns from 2004 to 2008.  Other charges include conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.

In total, the couple face over 50 years in prison, if convicted.

Dolce & Gabbana Get Jail Time!

Fashion hit the prison walls?! Legendary designers Domenico Dolce  and Stefano Gabbana have officially each been sentenced to a year and eight months behind bars after being found guilty of tax evasion!

Dolce and Gabbana were first accused of evading Italy taxes back in 2004, which they’ve strongly denied.  The fashion label’s sale of its signature and D&G lines to Luxembourg-based holding company Gado Srl raised a red flag. The designers’ lawyer, Massimo Dinoia, called for the pair to be acquitted of the charges – while prosecutor Gaetano Ruta believed that Dolce, Gabbana and company board member Cristiana Ruella should be sent to prison for two-and-a-half years.  He added that their accountant, Luciano Patelli, should be incarcerated for three years.

It’s been rumored that Dolce and Gabbana will fight to appeal the decision.

Keeping a close eye on this case…definitely a tough hit to the fashion industry!

Ja Rule Out of Prison Early

jaruleIn the latest news of imprisoned rap stars, Ja Rule has handed off the baton to Lauryn Hill to serve time in jail, as he is free. The embattled rapper, who has spent the last 23 months in prison for tax evasion and weapons possession, has left the Federal Correctional Institution in Ray Brook, New York. He’s out now and will serve out the rest of his sentence at home confined.

Ja Rule originally was supposed to spend 27 months for tax evasion but served those months concurrently with his sentencing for weapons conviction. A statement from his lawyer:

“My client Jeffrey Atkins (aka Ja Rule) was released this morning…to serve out his federal time obligation due under the terms set forth in accordance with home confinement which were secured by his attorney Stacy Richman. At present, he looks forward to spending some time with his family while he completes his memoir.”

Let’s hope he wrote lots of hits while in that cell, because he’s probably broke now. Perhaps he should get a few ready for Lauryn Hill when she’s out in about three months!

Lauryn Hill: Imprisoned!

From Joe Francis and ‘Girls Gone Wild’ to girls gone ignunt. Former hip hop queen Lauryn Hill, who has virtually disappeared from mainstream media the last ten years, has been sentenced to three months in federal prison for tax evasion. This comes after pleading for leniency and paying off nearly $1 million dollars before the sentence came down. Everyone knows Uncle Sam don’tplay. They want all their checks or you’re going to get in a cell!

A Newark judge has just sentenced hillher to three months behind bars and an additional nine months of supervised release.

Hill must report to the big house on July 8th and it’s not clear at this time where she will serve that time. Hill had this to say during her sentencing:

“I was put into a system I didn’t know the nature of. … I’m a child of former slaves. I got into an economic paradigm and had that imposed on me. I sold 50 million units … now I’m up here paying a tax debt. If that’s not likened to slavery, I don’t know what is.”

If that’s not a verbal slap against the music industry we don’t know what is.

Could this be fodder for her next musical release?
We’re patiently waiting!!

Lauryn Hill: From the Grammys to the Slammys?

Lauryn Hill has been hiding away for well over a decade in her own self-imprisonment. Well, thanks to not paying taxes for a few years, Lauryn is about to go to the pen against her will, whether she likes it or not!

The multiple-Grammy winning, former lead singer of hip hop legends The Fugees, is begging the courts now for mercy because of her state during those years. Hill claims that there were real threats made against her and her family between 2005 and 2007. She has already plead guilty to the charges and now awaits sentencing. Hill is arguing that she could make alot more money outside of jail to re-pay her debts than in it. Agreed. Expect ‘The New Mis-education of Lauryn Hill’ in a few months if she avoids prison!
