RHOA’s Apollo Nida Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison for Theft and Fraud

Sentencing day went down today for the Real Housewives of Atlanta‘s Apollo Nida, and the odds did not come out in his favor.

Apollo was arrested earlier in the year for identity theft and bank fraud, faking companies and taking people’s money and falsely cashing checks, which cost these folks a total of $2 million! Well today, the federal court put down the law, and sentenced Apollo to eight years in prison for his scheme, which occurred from 2009-2013, literally the entire time he’s been on the show!

Apollo admitted to his actions back in May, saying that he only did it to keep up with wife Phaedra Parks‘own income and lifestyle that was seen on the show. “I got sucked in and engulfed and lost sight of things,” he said. Phaedra was not present during the hearing.

This isn’t Apollo’s first time behind bars. He spent six years in jail, from around 2003 to 2009, for being a part of a car-theft operation. Shame he didn’t learn his lesson the first time!

I’m honestly not surprised that Phaedra wasn’t in court. And I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if she divorced him. EIGHT YEARS?! There’s a possibility of him getting out early for good behavior, but he’s going to be away from his family for a long time. Seems to me like this was merely a pride thing. He was intimidated by Phaedra and how much she makes, that, instead of finding an honest, legitimate way to make money and provide for his family, he does this. Might seem harsh, but I think it’s selfish, and I don’t feel sorry for him. I feel sorry for Phaedra and their two sons, who are toddler age, and have to deal with their father being away.

Teresa & Joe facing 50 years in prison?

teresa giudice

We knew Teresa Giudice and husband Joe were in a mess of trouble, but suddenly “mess” doesn’t seem like an accurate description. Today the couple was hit with a 39 count indictment. Let’s let that sink in…. 39 counts.

That’s not a “mess of trouble”, that’s a sh*t storm.

According to TMZ, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced the charges today, which range from tax evasion to bank fraud . The indictment claims that the couple committed multiple counts of bank and tax fraud from 2001-2008.

Specifically, that they overestimated their income in order to illegally obtain multiple mortgage loans from multiple banks, defrauding those banks of millions. It also alleges that the couple withheld information vital to their Chapter 7 filing in 2009, and that Joe had failed to file tax returns from 2004 to 2008.  Other charges include conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.

In total, the couple face over 50 years in prison, if convicted.

Ja Rule Out of Prison Early

jaruleIn the latest news of imprisoned rap stars, Ja Rule has handed off the baton to Lauryn Hill to serve time in jail, as he is free. The embattled rapper, who has spent the last 23 months in prison for tax evasion and weapons possession, has left the Federal Correctional Institution in Ray Brook, New York. He’s out now and will serve out the rest of his sentence at home confined.

Ja Rule originally was supposed to spend 27 months for tax evasion but served those months concurrently with his sentencing for weapons conviction. A statement from his lawyer:

“My client Jeffrey Atkins (aka Ja Rule) was released this morning…to serve out his federal time obligation due under the terms set forth in accordance with home confinement which were secured by his attorney Stacy Richman. At present, he looks forward to spending some time with his family while he completes his memoir.”

Let’s hope he wrote lots of hits while in that cell, because he’s probably broke now. Perhaps he should get a few ready for Lauryn Hill when she’s out in about three months!

Lauryn Hill: Imprisoned!

From Joe Francis and ‘Girls Gone Wild’ to girls gone ignunt. Former hip hop queen Lauryn Hill, who has virtually disappeared from mainstream media the last ten years, has been sentenced to three months in federal prison for tax evasion. This comes after pleading for leniency and paying off nearly $1 million dollars before the sentence came down. Everyone knows Uncle Sam don’tplay. They want all their checks or you’re going to get in a cell!

A Newark judge has just sentenced hillher to three months behind bars and an additional nine months of supervised release.

Hill must report to the big house on July 8th and it’s not clear at this time where she will serve that time. Hill had this to say during her sentencing:

“I was put into a system I didn’t know the nature of. … I’m a child of former slaves. I got into an economic paradigm and had that imposed on me. I sold 50 million units … now I’m up here paying a tax debt. If that’s not likened to slavery, I don’t know what is.”

If that’s not a verbal slap against the music industry we don’t know what is.

Could this be fodder for her next musical release?
We’re patiently waiting!!

Joe Francis: Boy Gone Wild

The girls have been going wild in his life for quite a long time now, so it is only fitting that Joe Francis’ time has come. The Los Angeles City Attorney has just released his sentencefrancis: 5 charges in all which includes assault, 3 counts of false imprisonment, and one count of dissuading a witness from reporting. Does this sound like some Rick James sh*t or what?!

Lauryn Hill: Prison or Probation?

Lauryn Hill is back in the news in a big way and not the way she probably wants to be!

The one-time star of hip-hop soul was sentenced to prison yesterday for not filing taxes from 2005 to 2007. She owes Uncle Sam nearly a million dollars in back taxes, but she may be able to pay it off before her May 6th sentencing.

Her attorney spoke to the press and confirmed that the singer just signed a deal with Sony valued at $1 million dollars. The singer is also looking to secure a loan worth nearly $700,000 to pay off the rest of the bill. If she can pay all of this off in time, perhaps she won’t see a day of prison and will instead receive a long probation. Get ready, fans.

Hill’s ‘people-lauryn-hill‘ CD is just around the corner!

Lauryn Hill: From the Grammys to the Slammys?

Lauryn Hill has been hiding away for well over a decade in her own self-imprisonment. Well, thanks to not paying taxes for a few years, Lauryn is about to go to the pen against her will, whether she likes it or not!

The multiple-Grammy winning, former lead singer of hip hop legends The Fugees, is begging the courts now for mercy because of her state during those years. Hill claims that there were real threats made against her and her family between 2005 and 2007. She has already plead guilty to the charges and now awaits sentencing. Hill is arguing that she could make alot more money outside of jail to re-pay her debts than in it. Agreed. Expect ‘The New Mis-education of Lauryn Hill’ in a few months if she avoids prison!
