Let me tell you, people don’t like change so I have some big fat uncertainty about Tyra Banks losing her damn marbles to fire J. Alexander, Nigel Barker and Jay Manuel from America’s Next Top Model. Yes, THAT happened. I suppose she decided if one had to go, then all three should go and that is understandable. Why choose one or two over the others? Simon Cowell did it with American Idol and he’s doing it with X-Factor, so why can’t she? Right?
It has been a successful 18 seasons for ANTM and all three mentors were on board since the beginning, but apparently Tyra wants to shake things up a bit. The three mentors were told yesterday morning that their contracts would not be renewed for the next season. FIRED!
According to the NY Post,
a show insider told us the departures were a “production decision” and that there are “major changes planned for [season] 19.”
We hear producers are looking to add a social media slant to the show, and they’ve already reached out to bloggers and fashion insiders with a strong Web presence, including street-style blogger Bryan Boy.
We revealed last September that Vogue editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley, who had been a judge on the show since Season 14, was being replaced by Kelly Cutrone, founder of public relations firm People’s Revolution, on the panel of judges.
We have not heard from the three now former employees, however executive producer Ken Mok said in a statement, “Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel and J. Alexander have been an integral part of the ‘America’s Next Top Model’ brand and they helped turn this show into the household name it is today. They have been amazing assets to the show and will always be a part of the ‘Top Model’ family. We will continue to actively work with each of them on future projects.”
I don’t know about you but I think Tyra made a HUGE mistake and I am not even a hardcore ANTM fan! I can’t even imagine what fans are saying!
