Nicki Minaj Discusses Work Ethic and Career Goals in Billboard Magazine

Nicki Minaj has been getting interviews left and right in promotion for her upcoming album, The Pink Print! The rapper recently snagged the cover of Billboard magazine, discussing how hard she really grinds and long term goals for her career.

Check out some of the highlights of the interview below!

On doing the behind-the-scenes work herself…because she has a brain
“I’m on 15 to 25 conference calls every few days strategizing with my team. I think a lot of artists sit back and have it done for them. Sometimes as women in the industry — if you’re sexy or like doing sexy things — some people subconsciously negate your brain. They think you’re stupid.”

On never resting on her laurels
“It’s corny when rappers feel like they’ve made it and they don’t have to prove themselves anymore. You should always be competing. You should always be trying to show that you’re the best. My album is going to be important to hip-hop.”

On those backhanded compliments
“Once I did American Idol, a lot of people would come up to me and say, ‘Oh, you’re smarter than I thought.’ “What does that mean?!”

On long-term goals
“I was just a little kid in Southside Jamaica, Queens, hoping one day I would have my own perfume. And now I have three.”

The full cover story is set to come out later today, Nov. 7!

Though I haven’t always been in support of everything Nicki has done in her career, I admire her work ethic. She hasn’t stopped, and now, regardless of how anyone feels about it, she’s on top of the world!

Nicki Minaj Will Host the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards

Nicki Minaj just keeps on winning! The rapper is set to host  the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards!

“I will not only perform, but I have the honorable task of HOSTING this year’s #MTVEMA!!!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!,” Minaj tweeted to her more than 18 million followers, posting a pic on Instagram as well.

Nicki is nominated for four awards for Best Female, Hip-Hop, Biggest Fans, and Best Look. One that I will definitely give her is Best Look because she has made a complete 180 from her Pink Friday days! She looks normal, instead of just a character.

This is definitely a good look for her, and says a lot about her impact. Even though some still take offense to her, especially recently with the sexual “Anaconda” song and video, she still is about her business and continues to grow as an artist and businesswoman. Congrats to her!

The 2014 MTV EMA’s will take place in Glasgow, with a live pre-show telecast anchored in Miami on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.

Nicki Minaj Tries Out Acting In The Other Woman Trailer (VIDEO)

For all of you all who didn’t know, Nicki Minaj wants to be an actress. And so I present to you Nicki Minaj in The Other Woman trailer.

She’s making her dreams come true, ya’ll. But does that mean she is a good actress? Well that is still yet to be determined.

I mean it is pretty common for a singer, rapper or athlete to want to become a famous actor and Minaj is like any other and that’s cool and all…but in case you didn’t see Gaga’s acting debut in Machete Kills, she received a Razzie nomination and that isn’t good.

This Spring we can all find out if Minaj has the acting chops when she stars in The Other Woman along with seasoned actress Cameron Diaz.

The film follows a woman (Diaz) who finds out that she is “the other woman” in an affair, and teams up with the man’s wife to get revenge on the cheating husband. Model Kate Upton also co-stars in the film.

And Minaj plays Diaz’s assistant at a law firm. Quite fittingly, Minaj plays a woman who doesn’t take no nonsense from anyone and she is also on her third marriage.

Check out a sneak peak of Minaj in The Other Woman trailer below.

R&B Stud Mario To Make Comeback With Nicki Minaj Collaboration

Everyone else is trying to make their comeback so why can’t Mario? I’ve been wondering what ever happened to this guy. Apparently he just needed a break from it all and I can appreciate that.

Mario recently released his new single called “Somebody Else” and it features the controversial rapper Miss Nicki Minaj.

This track is set to be featured on the singer’s upcoming 5th studio album. Didn’t know he had THAT many albums out! Production on the track comes from Polow Da Don who also did “Crying Out For Me”.

You can bet your booty you will be seeing more of Mario as he is set to do a whole lot of radio and promotional appearances and you’ll definitely hear more about his upcoming album. We aren’t quite sure when it will be released but what we do know is that he will have 12 songs on the album and he isn’t quite done with it.

We got our hands on the single and you can take a listen below and then let me know what you think.

For you more visual peeps, you are going to have to wait a bit for the music video. But as far as we know it is in the works.

Nicki Minaj to Teen Vogue: “People Treat This Business Like High School”

After recently stirring up more drama after coming for Mariah Carey on Twitter, Nicki Minaj has snagged the June cover of Teen Vogue, donning her signature girly girl look. Inside, she opens up about why she refuses to fake about the industry, her parents’ dysfunctional relationship, and why she no longer gives her critics any attention.

On why she refuses to fake about the industry
People treat this business like it’s high school. It can absolutely feel like one big popularity contest, and you know what? I can’t be bothered. I can’t allow myself to play ridiculous games with grown adults in the industry. I can’t be nice to someone just because they’re hot right now. I can’t do it.

On how her parents dysfunctional relationship affected her
Every time my parents fought, my mother would have us move and I would have to go to a new school, which meant I’d have to face the task of making new friends. I dreaded it. I had butterflies in my stomach each time: Are people going to like or hate me? … Sometimes there’d be a fight, sometimes not. I let people know I wasn’t going to be pushed around.

On why she no longer pays attention to the critics
I used to read the bad things people said about me, then I asked myself, ‘Why am I reading that when I have millions of people saying great things?’ You cannot give negativity power. I tell teens, if you’re having a problem, there’s nothing wrong with deleting your social media. If people keep taunting you and you keep reading it, it’s poison.

Nicki, I like you, but you have to admit that you’ve added to the drama within the industry, acting a little “high school” yourself. I appreciate that you’re not fake about your feelings, but there’s a difference between being fake and cordial! I like that she talked  about her past, and learning to ignore the critics, though. She has the power to inspire and empower millions worldwide; she just has to use that power a little better. You can read more from Nicki in the June issue of Teen Vogue!

American Idol Judges: “Replace ALL The Judges!”

So after the whispers this season that Mariah Carey was the problem when it came to the sliding ratings of American Idol, the producers have decided that it’s more than just one diva. It may be all four, to which they have responded…

Replace them all!

That’s right, folks, Randy Jackson, who somehow has managed to avoid being kicked off for years and years, is now about to be unemployed if the producers have their way for next season. After twelve years, it goes without saying that the show is about as stale as Randy’s “yo dawgs” and something drastic must be done. Insiders at the show already know that Mariah Carey will definitely not return. And why should she after they lied to her about being the only diva on the panel and then threw in Tricki Fromajai at the last minute? There is even talk of bringing back the original three judges if X Factor is ever canceled. That means Randy, Paula, and Simon would be reunited and Americans everywhere would yet again be wondering what exactly Paula is sipping in that cup!

The ratings are down 22% this year, and no one seems to care who wins either. If you put a gun to our head, we could not even name the final three singers. But then again, we have not been able to do that for a few seasons.

Sue us!

Nicki Minaj, The Other Woman?

Nicki Minaj (hopefully) will now be moving into movies and away from music and possibly American Idol as she delves into the movie industry (or at least that is what I’m hoping). Actually what I am really hoping is she joins the circus but that’s a whole ‘nother blog post.

Instead, what we do know is that Miss Minaj has joined the cast of “The Other Woman”, which is a Cassavetes-directed comedy starring Cameron Diaz. Diaz plays the a woman who finds out that she is “the other woman” in an affair. Minaj teams up with the wife (Leslie Mann) to get revenge on the cheater, being played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

Minaj’s character?

Well, she will will play Diaz’s opinionated assistant at a law firm, a woman on her own third marriage.

“The Other Woman” begins shooting in late spring/early summer in New York. So you can you bet your booty you will be seeing fun little twitter photos of Minaj while she strolls around on set.

You better be ready for those googly eyes to hit your screen! Minaj is ready for that Oscar, yo.

Mariah Carey To American Idol: I’ll Sue a B*tch!

The ratings on American Idol have plummeted so hard that the producers reportedly considered ditching Mariah Carey and bringing back former judge Jennifer Lopez. And what did Carey have to say about all of this when it floated from their lips and underneath her weave and into her luscious lobes?

Hell to the no!

Carey had a few choice words for that proposal of her own. As in allegedly threatening to sue them for every cent they’ve ever made on the decade old show. The producers, who already are not the best of friends with Carey since slipping in Nicki Minaj at the last minute, now claim the talk is just that and there were never any plans to bring Lopez back.

If the producers want ratings to increase, they should probably get rid of Keith Urban and leave the judges at three. Minaj may be crazy, but she gives good drama against Mariah and they need more of that! Allegedly, the rumors surfaced once news spread that Lopez was performing on the season finale. Since Lopez and Carey allegedly hate one another, maybe we’ll see a verbal slap or two on this night?

Stay tuned. Or like most people this season…don’t!

Now You Can Minaj Yourself

If your dream has been to transform into a clown Nicki Minaj, you can get the next best thing…a virtual makeover! Apparently Minaj loves herself so damn much that she thinks everyone should be “colorful” like her. Lawd help us. Do we REALLY need anymore peeps looking like Miss Minaj?

So here’s the deal, Minaj’s beauty website (yes, she has one of those) has a new program called “Minaj a Moi”that allows fans to get made over in Minaj’s uniquely colorful style. All fans have to do is upload a picture onto the site, where they can add Minaj’s signature pink lip gloss and other makeup.

In addition, the program also lets users choose between three colorful wigs before they spray themselves with her Pink Friday perfume (and of course there is a link to buy).

The fun part of all of this (if you could call it that) is after getting the Minaj makeover, peeps can then share the wild and wacky Minaj-like photo pic with the rest of the world.

Check out the new program on Nickiminajbeauty.com.

Nicki Minaj Covers the April Issue of Elle

Nicki Minaj has been uncharacteristically calm these past few months, even switching out her Barbie garb for a more mature adult look. The “new Nicki” is now a judge for FOX’s American Idol, and has snagged the April cover for Elle Magazine!

Nicki opened up to the mag about feeling vulnerable after leaving behind her crazy makeup, wigs and outfits. She also discussed how she was bullied as a child, and her plans for world domination!

On her toned-down look
When I saw myself with barely any makeup at, it was such a… like, I’m so, so attached to my pink lipstick, it’s hard. I feel that it’s become a part of me. To go in front of the camera, without pink lips or big ol’ crazy lashes— you know, nothing— I felt naked. It was scary! So this photoshoot was a real accomplishment in my eyes.

On being bullied during her childhood
I went through a lot of bullying early on. Girls made my life a living hell. We had come to America from a different country. My brother and I had accents. It was very tough. So I’ve always put up this wall— it was a self-defense mechanism growing up— because I was almost expecting people to attack me. And I still have it. It’s sad.

Her Advice to the Ladies to Gain Respect
My advice to women in general: Even if you’re doing a nine-to-five job, treat yourself like a boss. Not arrogant, but be sure of what you want— and don’t allow people to run anything for you without your knowledge. You want everyone to know, Okay, I can’t play games with her. I have to do right by this woman. That’s what it’s all about.

On Her Plans For world Domination
My goal in the beginning was to buy my mother a house. Now I realize, Okay, if I really focus and become a key player in business, then I can build an empire. I’m thinking of a legacy that I can be proud of and wealth that my grandchildren can use to go to college. So world domination— in terms of providing for my family— is absolutely my goal.

The issue hits shelves on March 18!

Nicki Minaj vs. Mariah Carey: Round 72

Nicki Minaj must have a secret crush on Mimi or something. Why else is she always bringing her name up in the most evil of ways for no reason? We all know you hate her. We got that 15,000 months ago. We’re over it. So until you dare slap Mariah, there’s really nothing new going on here. But oh the things one must do when the realization hits that 5 years from now, people will remember the weaves, Rainbow Brite attire, but the name?

Tricki WHO?

So this is why Nicki is using her dislike for all things Carey to get some press and some extra checks. When asked recently about collaborating with the pop queen in the future, Nicki was blunt… “I don’t know. God bless her though…I mean, that’ll never happen.” In other words, if the right check comes along, she’ll change her tune quicker than you can say ‘Vision of Love’.

Nicki Minaj vs. Mariah Carey: Round #37

It’s probably been more rounds than that, but I’m erring on the side of conservatism.

And why is Nicki Minaj even ON ‘American Idol’ anyway? The judges are supposed to be musical heavyweights with countless years and hits on their resumes. I would list here Mariah’s hits against Nicki Minaj’s, but my editor likes me to keep these posts under a certain amount of words for all you sufferers of attention deficit disorder.

Where was I?

So down south in Charlotte, North Carolina, the showdown that everyone has been waiting for went off. But before the verbal slaps could get too heated, what did the producer of ‘American Idol’ do?

He came in to referee and dashed all our hopes of weaves flying, cotton candy hair spraying across the room, and Keith Urban running for Nicole!

“That’s a wrap for today!”, Nigel Lythgoe proclaimed just before the proverbial sh*t hit the fan.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again. Mariah may look nice and sweet, but a girl from Long Island isn’t going to let some Power Puff reject come at her too many times.

You better watch your back, Nicki. Mariah’s got about 6 inches and 2 layers of weave, and a yo-yo dieting big black man on her side waiting on you!idol18f-2-web

Nicki Minaj Tries To Explain Mariah Carey Feud

American Idol Judge” NICKI MINAJ makes an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Tuesday, January 15th. Ellen talks with Nicki about adjusting to her new role on “American Idol” and getting used to the work schedule. And, Nicki opens up about her rumored feud with fellow judge, Mariah Carey. Plus, Ellen gives Nicki a gift of “BFF” necklaces for her and Mariah to try and patch things up.

Nicki: All of them ( fellow judges) always like to take breaks, pees breaks and eat breaks. I’m always like I don’t want to take breaks. If I take a break, I’m not going to want to come back so they literally go and pee and stuff and I sit there like…(shaking her leg)

Ellen: Really? You’re the one keeping everybody on time?

Nicki: Yes.

Ellen: That’s a shocker…

Nicki: Well, no. Not in the morning.

Ellen: Ok.

Nicki: Once, I’m already there I don’t want to move…

Ellen: Let’s talk about what everybody was talking about during the audition rounds. You and Mariah had a little bickering situation.

Nicki: What?

Ellen: Yeah, we have footage if you would like me to remind you. So what happened there? I kind of think I know what happened but what happened with you and Mariah?

Nicki: I don’t know. It was just to big old divas, I guess. I was just like sitting there. and I guess before I went in there I heard all the stuff that was being said but I didn’t believe it. I heard them saying Mariah doesn’t want you on the panel but I was like, no. I am friends with Mariah. I was like arguing people down. Like, don’t believe everything you read, you’re crazy. And so I went there and I started to feel a bit of the shade. And I just kind of over compensated by being crazier. And I don’t think that really…

Ellen: That didn’t work?

Nicki: No.

Ellen: She didn’t like the crazier?

Nicki: No.

Ellen: You thought, I’ll make you sorry. I’ll show you.

Nicki: Kind of, not like that…If you know someone maybe doesn’t like you. It’s kind of like, now you’re gonna like really go in and show hey, because it’s like a defense mechanism. You know what I mean? It’s really that. You’re feelings are hurt and you can’t believe it so you kind of just compensate with being crazy.

Ellen: Right, poor Keith Urban it in between you two. The sweetest guy in the world. So now how are you all getting along?

Nicki: We’re fine. I cannot hold a grudge against Mariah Carey. What people don’t understand is that I’ve looked up to her for so many years. Since she came out, “Vision of Love” all that. Me and my Mother would sing her songs like all day and all night. So I don’t know if she’s gotten over it but I have. I mean, I’m over there cracking up laughing, having fun and if she’s still holding a grudge. I don’t know. Like I don’t care.

Ellen: And, what do you think the live shows are going to be like?

Nicki:…You know what I’m not looking forward to live shows.

Ellen: Why is that?…Come on Nicki, let it out.

Nicki: I cannot trust myself.

Ellen: In what way?

Nicki: Just like if there’s a slick comment being made… I just want it to go well. It’s about the contestants. We have a lot of great talent and I don’t want anyone on the panel to say something to crazy because then I don’t want to look like a crazy psycho again. I am not really a crazy psycho you guys, Seriously, please, no. I swear…No, I am serious. I am really not…

Ellen: I don’t think you’re a crazy psycho. I think you are a very passionate, creative person. And I think you have some many different facades of your personality. And, I think some personalities are wilder than other personalities.

Nicki: Yeah

Ellen:And, that wild personality that you have can get out of control. And the calmer one goes in the back and goes; I’m not going to stop that girl. And that girl is out there, right?

Nicki: Right, that’s what happens…

Ellen: …It’s going to be good TV not matter what. It’s live and it’s good. If goes well great and if it doesn’t better.

Did you see that peeps? I just did a big fat eyeroll and y’all know why.
