It’s been rumored for quite some time that Beyoncé would be performing at the MTV Video Music Awards this year. However, according to The Wrap, MTV has confirmed that the star will also be receiving a nice award for her hard work!
Bey is set to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, when the award show airs live from the Forum in Inglewood, California, on Sunday, Aug. 24. In addition to this award, the singer snagged eight nominations, including two of the top nods, Best Female, and Video of the Year.
The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award is much like a Lifetime Achievement award of sorts, honoring artists that have been put in the work and time on their music and visuals. The award was renamed for the legendary King of Pop back in 1991. Michael was one of several stars that took home the award for their work. Other recipients of the award include Madonna, Peter Gabriel, R.E.M., Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.
Obviously, as a dedicated member of the Beyhive, I’m very happy that Bey is not only performing live, but is getting an award for all that she’s done so far. She’s been in the industry for quite a while now, and is definitely deserving. I’m excited to see what she brings to the show come August 24! Is it too much to hope for another Destiny’s Child mini-reunion???
