Mark Wahlberg on Family, Faith, and the Importance of Legos

In a candid interview with Parade, Mark Wahlberg opened up about receiving his high school diploma earlier this year, the big role faith plays in his life, who makes up his “entourage” these days, his new film, Lone Survivor, and more!

Here are the highlights:

What were your biggest takeaways from filming Lone Survivor?
It takes a very special individual to become a SEAL. I felt it was so important to give the guys who never came down off that mountain their due. My wife couldn’t talk for 45 minutes after she saw the movie. All she kept thinking about were the sons and fathers and mothers and daughters out there fighting for our freedom. You take it for granted.

How do you spend Sundays?
If the kids are good, I’ll have doughnuts for them at 6:30 in the morning, and I’ll say, “You guys gotta let Mommy sleep in!” I’ll go to church at 7:30 and everybody will be eating breakfast when I come home. Then we’ll go to church again at 10:30, if things aren’t too hectic. Or if one of the kids has a game we’ll watch them play. It’s a nice family day.

Faith is obviously a big part of your life.
It’s the most important part of my life. I don’t try to push it on anybody and I don’t try to hide it.

What would people be surprised to know about you?
My sons and I thoroughly enjoy Legos. We go to the toy store every week for more. I never want to take what we build apart; I want to put it on a shelf. My wife is starting to get a little annoyed with the Legos lying around.

Who’s in your entourage now?
My wife, the kids, and a wonderful nanny. When I’m filming, all the guys are with me; but if I’m not at work, I’m with my family.

Did you feel you had a lot to prove early in your career?
Certainly. I don’t think it was customary for people from a music background to be accepted in film in a serious way. Considering what I had to overcome, I’ve had plenty to motivate me. Even more so today—I’m passionate about what I do. I’m a little older, but I’m not getting lazy!

Mark Wahlberg Shows Off His Ingrown Toenail

Star of “Broken City,” MARK WAHLBERG makes and appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Thursday, January 17th. Mark chats with Ellen about his busy schedule, working on his Mom’s new reality show and how he injured his toe…and then he shows off his toe. Apparently his feet don’t stink.

Check out the highlights of the interview below.

Mark: It’s a very lively crowd here. It woke me up. I’ve had a long day

Ellen: What have you been doing?

Mark: I just flew in from Boston. I flew in from a snowstorm

Ellen: Really, today?

Mark: Yeah. We were in Boston last night. New York yesterday during the day. We were doing publicity for “Broken City” and we had a fundraiser at a restaurant “Wahlburgers” and my mom is now filming a reality show that we sold to the history channel about building a family business.

Ellen: Oh wow

Mark: So we went there to do that and then I jumped on a plane this morning and there was 2 1/2 inches of snow and it was very bumpy and I had to have half my toenail removed.

Ellen: Why?

Mark: The thing’s just growing the wrong way. So I had a problem before and the guy Mickey O’ Keefe who played himself in “The Fighter”?

Ellen: Yes

Mark: He’s a police officer? Well his daughter in-law, thank god is a podiatrist came so she came and cut half my toenail off.

Ellen: Wait, ok so I’m still in the snow. Did this happen on the plane?

Mark: It happened before I got on the plane.

Ellen: Before you got on the plane? So are you shot up with pain stuff or?

Mark: It’s worn off now.

Ellen: So now you’re in pain?

Mark: Yes. I’m feeling it…But the energy is making me feel better…I apologize; I know that was a random story.

Ellen: I love random stories. I don’t like to stay on the straight and narrow. Can we see it?

Mark: Do you wanna see it? It’s wrapped up. You don’t believe me?

Ellen: I believe you. Was it an ingrown toenail?

Mark: Yes

Ellen: It was the Big toe?

Mark: Yes. That’s the medical term.

Ellen: I still don’t know if I believe you. I think you have that on there…

Mark: I never go without socks.

Ellen: But why?

Mark: I just don’t.

Ellen: You have good feet. You have really good feet.

Mark: Because I always wear socks.

Ellen: Let it air out…. That’s good. Let it rest, it needs to rest. [Mark puts feel up] Can I get you a drink?

Hello Mark, Goodbye Shia

And good riddance if you ask me. Because what action star should look like a confused, wet rat anyway? I rest my case.

Michael Bay, who has always lacked it, has come to his senses, and has reportedly decided to reboot the franchise that is Transformers with none other than go-to action star Mark Wahlberg, who is set to star in the fourth installment to the billion dollar series. The two are currently working on the movie Pain and Gain, and I guess there is a back-end deal involved here where they get to tag team whichever model/wannabe actress that is hired to play opposite him.

“Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on Pain and Gain and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy,” said Bay.
Say what you will about the Transformers movies (because I sure as hell do), but they make money and if you want to put all that potential new money on stable shoulders (and asses), then Marky Mark is your man.
Look for it in 2014!

Mark Wahlberg Doesn’t Think We Want To See Him On Billboards Anymore

What the eff is this guy smoking? Has he not seen a photo of himself with his shirt off as of late?

Mark Wahlberg may have jumpstarted his career with an iconic underwear campaign for Calvin Klein (see above…yum), but the actor-producer isn’t looking to have his likeness grace billboards again anytime soon. Come on, man!

Parade.com is reporting that for the past few years, the actor has been working to relaunch Aqua Hydrate, the water brand he owns (Jack Nicklaus, Ron Burkle, and Sean “Diddy” Combs all sit on the board of directors).

In an interview with Parade, Marky Mark talks about his water business, working with Diddy and more.

“I got into this by accident. I had no desire to be in the beverage business. I was training for The Fighter and a friend brought this guy in with a case of water. He started telling me about reverse osmosis and all of this organic stuff and I said, ‘Dude, I don’t know what you’re talking about. Leave the water and I’ll try it.’ I started drinking the water—I usually drink a gallon or a gallon and a half of water a day— and I immediately recovered quicker, started running eight instead of seven miles a day. So I said I love the product but wasn’t in the beverage business so I couldn’t help them. But then I started talking to people and decided I wanted to get involved somehow.”

“Probably not. I don’t think anyone wants to see me on a billboard anymore. But we do want the top athletes and we’ll have very interesting people endorsing the product.”

“I was in Vegas at a fight and Diddy comes up to me and goes, ‘Where’s that water? Where’s the water?’ And I told him not to worry about it since it was for me not for him. He said he always wanted his own water so we started talking and then Ron Burkle came on. We feel like we have a special product and we did all these clinical tests against all the premium waters and energy drinks. There are a lot of big athletes who drink the water even though they get paychecks from other drink companies. There is no shortage of people who want to be the face of the water. We’re talking the biggest and the best.”

Mark Wahlberg To Open Burger Chain in Britain and Ireland?

Mark Wahlberg’s burger chain Wahlburgers was launched last year in Hingham, Massachusetts (the birth place of New Kids on the Block singer Donnie AND brother Paul, who is a chef) and apparently things are going so well there that the fam is taking their high-class burgers to both Britain and Ireland…or so says Mark Wahlberg.

The actor said, “We do higher-end burgers. Yesterday, we sold 1,300. It’s run by my brother, Paul, who is a five-star chef. We’re opening a bunch of them in Britain and Ireland this year.”

Apparently Mark and his bros don’t communicate on the daily because chef Paul’s rep had to shut down Marky’s “news”. There are “no immediate plans for expansion at this time. They’re talking about Boston, but nothing has been set in stone yet.” Perhaps he is just getting a tad ahead of himself with the excitement?

How can you blame him though? He added, “When I first mentioned the idea of Wahlburgers, people were like, ‘Oh my God, that’s a stupid idea.’ “What they don’t realize is how talented my brother is. I would never risk putting my name out there in a way that would end up being bad. You can get people to show up because of the name but they are going to come back because they like the food. A successful burger place takes maybe $2,400 a day. A really successful one does $6,000. We’re making $17,000 a day. There are lines queuing around the corner.”

Mark Wahlberg Takes his Kids to Watch Tattoo Removal

Mark Wahlberg is teaching his kids a thing or two about tattoos. Don’t get them! In order to dissuade his kiddos from indulging in a tattoo or two, he took his kids with to watch him get his tattoos removed!

Wahlberg told the Today show that he decided to get rid of his six or seven tats before he started shooting The Fighter back in 2010 and he took his kids with him to watch the painful removal of the tats! Mark told the Today show, “(All the tattoos) have meaning to me, but it’s both personal and professional. I don’t want my kids getting tattoos. And I wanted them to be (removed) by the time I did The Fighter because putting make-up on and covering them up has always been a pain in the butt. I’ve taken my two older kids to the procedure so they see how painful it is and what I have to go through.”

I’m sure that was an eye opener for those kids!

Quote of the Day: Mark Wahlberg

“To suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible. To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with. I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive – it was certainly not my intention.”

Mark Wahlberg, in response to his highly criticized comments on 9/11: “If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry’.”
