Celebrity Gossip Heard All Over The Web

CELEB SPOTTING: Kerry Washington and Nnamdi Asomugha Have Quality Time in NYC

In a rare appearance together, actress Kerry Washington and her husband Nnamdi Asomugha were spotted walking together in NYC!

The couple, new parents to 5-month-old Isabelle, are notoriously private and are very rarely photographed together. Kerry likes it that way. The Scandal actress keeps her personal business personal, and there’s no changing that! “I have girlfriends in this business who talk about their personal lives, and it works for them, and I love it. But not for me. I learned through experience that it doesn’t work for me to talk about my personal life,” she told Glamour magazine last year. “I’ve had earlier times in my career when I did talk about it. I was on the cover of a bridal magazine [she covered InStyle Wedding in 2005 before ending her engagement to actor David Moscow in 2007]…But I couldn’t just turn around and say, ‘I only want to talk about the good stuff, but not the bad stuff.’ So I just thought, ‘OK, no more.'” Smart.

I love when we do actually see them together, though! I think they are a beautiful couple, and I love to see couples together and happy. It’s the romantic in me!

In other news, make sure you check out Scandal’s season premiere tonight at 9 p.m. ET on ABC!

Kerry Washington to Launch Scandal Fashion Line!

Great news Gladiators: Now those of you like me who are in LOVE with Olivia Pope’s fashion on the show can pick up a few pieces inspired by her style! Kerry Washington and costume designer Lyn Paolo are collaborating with The Limited to launch Scandal fashion line!

“By creating a line inspired by the show, we are introducing a collection that embodies the elegance and power of the Scandal aesthetic for real-life gladiators and everyday fashionistas,” Kerry said in a press release. “The collection is a nod to our devoted fans, to fans of fashion and to women everywhere who are inspired to boldly pursue their passions and look good while doing it.”

The new mom worked with The Limited’s head of design Elliot Staples and Lyn, who comes up with the costuming for Scandal.  “It’s been really fun to have a voice at every stage of the production from picking buttons, choosing fabrics and weighing in on hair and makeup people,” Kerry said to WWD. “People who love the look of the show can now step into this world in a way that is affordable and accessible because not everybody can afford to have the clothes they see on the show,” she said.

Check out a first look at the Scandal clothing collection launching at The Limited this fall.

“The whole team took great care in creating a collection that reflects Olivia Pope’s unique style. We believe the collection tells a story of confidence and professional sophistication as well as maintaining a strong feminine point of view,” Lyn said in a press release. “I am so excited and hopeful that our Gladiators are as excited about the collection as we are; it has been such tremendous fun and such an honor to design for the amazing characters that Shonda Rhimes has created and now to help make their style accessible to all.”

Prices for the pieces are set to start at $49. Not bad at all! The line is set to make its debut in late September in The Limited stores nationwide and online. I will definitely be on the lookout! Ladies, we are sure to find some great pieces!

CELEB SPOTTING: Kerry Washington Makes First Red Carpet Since Giving Birth

Kerry Washington is back and looking good! After giving birth to her daughter Isabelle Amarachi in April, the Scandal actress made her first public appearance on the red carpet! The actress was spotted at the Women in Film’s Crystal + Lucy Awards held at L.A.’s Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

Wearing a Max Mara cocktail dress with a black short-sleeve top and colorful bottom, Kerry was presented with the Lucy Award by Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes. Kerry’s husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, was there in support of his wifey as well.

Kerry has done a great job in keeping her pregnancy and motherhood a secret, but finally spoke out for the first time yesterday during a video chat with the The Los Angeles Times.

One fan, who submitted a question via Twitter, asked her, “Now that you’re a mom will it be bittersweet to go back to work?” “So tricky, because you know I don’t talk about this stuff,”  Kerry started. “But I will say I feel really, really blessed. I just feel really blessed that I’m kind of living extraordinary dreams come true in my work life and in my personal life.”

I don’t expect to see any baby pics unfortunately! However, it’s Kerry’s personal life, and she wants to keep it personal, no matter what hit show she’s on. Completely understandable.

Kerry Washington Gives Birth To A Baby Girl!

Kerry Washington is REALLY good at keeping her personal life quiet! According to reports, the Scandal actress secretly welcomed a baby girl on April 21, almost two weeks ago!

It’s the first child for the Scandal actress and husband Nnamdi Asomugha, who she secretly married back in June 2013 in a small ceremony in Hailey, Idaho. The baby’s name is reportedly Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha, according to Glamour.  Very pretty!

The news of the pregnancy broke in October, and Kerry FINALLY opened up about her pregnancy during the 2014 Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 12. “I feel like I have the best date of the night,” she said, rocking the bump in a beautiful, white Balenciaga gown. “My little accessory tonight.” A little over a month later,  Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes hosted a baby shower for Kerry at her Hancock Park home in L.A. About 60 friends and relatives attended, including costar Darby StanchfieldRegina King, and Jane Fonda.

Recently, Kerry and the rest of her Gladiators wrapped filming  on Season 3 of Scandal, which was cut down to 18 episodes instead of the standard 22, as Kerry rode out her pregnancy. Her pregnancy was not written into the D.C. crisis management drama. Instead, there were a lot of half and up close shots, but we all still knew!

Aww congrats to the happy couple! I’m sure Kerry and Nnamdi will be amazing parents to their baby girl. I wish them all the best!

CELEB SPOTTING: Mom-to-Be Kerry Washington at ESSENCE Luncheon

Kerry Washington‘s pregnancy fashion is seriously on point! The actress was spotted rocking a blue silk dress from the Calvin Klein Collection to the Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon on Feb. 27 at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Kerry looked fabulous as always, with her hair styled in bouncy curls and her face made up with smoky eye makeup and a pink lipstick. She completed the look with Jimmy Choo pumps and an Emm Kuo clutch.

Meanwhile, Gladiators all over (myself included!) were beyond excited that Scandal came back last night after its winter break! You can tell that the team is trying really, REALLY hard to cover up Kerry’s bump with her big coats and the way the camera was angled with every one of her scenes last night! Anywho, in celebration of one my favorite shows being back on, check out a Spanish parody of Scandal from Jimmy Kimmel Live, starring some of the cast! Very funny!

Kerry Washington Poses for Glamour, Talks Style and Secret Marriage

Scandal‘s Kerry Washington looked so pretty on the cover of October’s issue of Glamour! On the cover, Kerry posed with a  pink Dior dress, and spoke with the mag about her marriage that she kept on the hush hush, upping her style game, and how her parents disapproved of her career choice at first (what?!)! Check out more from the interview below!

On Keeping Her Personal Life Private
I learned through experience that it doesn’t work for me to talk about my personal life. I’ve had earlier times in my career when I did talk about it. I was on the cover of a bridal magazine [InStyle Weddings, in 2005, when Washington was engaged to actor David Moscow]. But I couldn’t just turn around and say, “I only want to talk about the good stuff, but not the bad stuff.” So I just thought, “OK, no more.”

You even managed to get married in June without anyone knowing.

Absolutely! I’m walking around in the world with my ring. And when people say congratulations, I say thank you. But I’m going to continue to not talk about it and just let it unfold.

It must have been satisfying to pull off a wedding with no press around.

[Laughs.] I don’t want to sound smug about it…but the point is to do what’s best for me. I have girlfriends in this business who talk about their personal lives, and it works for them, and I love it. But not for me.

On If Her Parents Approve Of Her Career Choice
When I said that this is what I wanted to do, my mother literally cried. She didn’t want me to experience all that rejection. They both would have preferred me to have been a lawyer.… [After college] I gave myself a year to make it in acting and was living in my parents’ house teaching beginner’s yoga when I got my first part, in Our Song. Then I got Save the Last Dance.… Now they’re really behind me. And I’m always working. My cousins call me the longshoreman of actors.

On Fashion Being Important to Her Career
OK, I’m going to admit this: There were a couple of actresses whom I felt were having the upper hand careerwise—because they knew how to work that red carpet. I was like, “I’m missing a really important tool. If I am the CEO of the Kerry Washington Corporation, my marketing department is really lax.” So I sort of developed a new character: Red-Carpet Kerry.[…]And I researched her like any other character. I actually called Tracee Ellis Ross [the actress and Diana Ross’s daughter], who’s a good friend, and literally asked, “How do you pronounce Hermès?” Red-Carpet Kerry needed to know.[…]The professor’s daughter kicked in. I was doing library hours on fashion. And then it happened—I was in love.

On Her All White Fashion in “Scandal”
From me and the costume designer Lyn Paolo. And the pants—that Olivia wears pants—that was mine, because I really wanted her to wear the pants in that relationship.

I absolutely LOVE Kerry! To see her transform from Chenille in Save The Last Dance to now Olivia Pope in Scandal is incredible! She’s done amazing things in her career thus far, and I’m looking forward to more from her. Still can’t believe she managed to keep that marriage so quiet though! Scandal, of course, is back on October 3rd for all of my fellow Gladiators out there!

Kerry Washington Keeps Marriage on the Down Low

If you want further proof that Scandal actress and current Hollywood It Girl Kerry Washington is not a famewhore, reports are only surfacing that she got married this week. The actual wedding took place last month and not many even knew she was seeing anyone. Where was her man during the awards season? Did she have him locked up and away during all that hoopla?! Apparently so, for heads rolled when it was announced this week that she had quietly said ‘I do’ to NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha.

If you want to know more about this pair, you may have to stalk them out and ask yourself, because there’s not much for us to report other than that they are both good-looking, young, and very capable of producing cute children that would give Halle and Mariah’s children a run for their money.

Whatever happens next, we wish this pair well, and we hope this does not steam down the sex scenes in Scandal!

You’ll Never Guess What Kerry Washington Wanted To Be When She Was Growing Up

Introducing ELLE’s June cover girl: Kerry Washington! The Scandal star poses for her first-ever major fashion magazine spread wearing Marc Jacobs. In her interview, the actress opens up to the magazine about her current success, getting red-carpet ready, and the career she always thought she’d pursue (hint: it isn’t acting!) The issue hits newsstands nationwide on May 21st.

Check out the highlights below:

On the career Washington thought she’d pursue:

“I imagined I’d be a clinical psychologist, with a focus on how performance shapes identity. I’d figure out ways to use role-playing in the healing of people.”

When asked if as a girl she thought she’d ever consider modeling or becoming a film actress:

“I was not that girl. I was a kooky theater kid, silly and goofy and academic.”

On getting red-carpet ready:

“I found out I enjoy the process. All these people show up at my house, they all have kits, someone has dresses. And it’s like, Let’s have fun. It’s not all about me. We’re able to create stories on the red carpet.”

On her current success:

“I’m the luckiest broad in Hollywood now. To be the lead actor on Scandal and to be in the highest-earning Tarantino movie- I don’t get to ask for more.”

Kerry Washington, The Sexy Game Changer

PARADE features Kerry Washington, star of Scandal, ABC’s Beltway melodrama about a crisis fixer who solves powerful people’s problems while at the same time managing an on-again, off-again love affair with the (married) leader of the free world. Scandal’s wacky scenarios are so over the top, it’s easy to forget what’s groundbreaking about the show: the 36-year-old actress who plays the lead just happens to be the first African-American woman to carry a network drama in nearly four decades.

“I didn’t realize…when I was auditioning for the role,” Washington tells PARADE. “I knew that in my lifetime I’d never seen it. But it didn’t compute to me that I’d be making history. I just fell in love with the character.” Also notable: the fact that President Fitzgerald “Fitz” Grant and Washington’s character Olivia Pope are an interracial couple is barely acknowledged. Some more highlights from the interview:

On the dysfunctional Washington D.C. portrayed in the series:

“The story lines…push what’s possible. But there are stories on the news that change what we think is possible all the time. You hear about a governor who’s disappeared into the Appalachian trail because he has a South American lover, or somebody else’s behavior on Twitter. I mean, if you want to look at presidents having affairs—there are about four I can think of off the top of my head.”

On her work on the controversial film Django Unchained:

“I feel like I barely survived Django emotionally. The violence. Hearing the N-word every day. It cost me a lot psychologically, but it was worth it to tell that story.”

On her recent work schedule:

“I had two days between finishing Django and starting up again on Scandal. It was nuts. That first day back I had to walk across the Rose Garden in heels. I thought, ‘I don’t remember how to walk like Olivia Pope anymore. ‘I’d been barefoot in the woods for months playing a slave.”

On whether, as a member of the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, she is aware of President Obama’s view of the show:

“I haven’t wanted to ask the president his opinion of the show. But I have lots of friends in the administration who love it. We make D.C. look sexy and exciting.”

On her role in the new Tyler Perry-produced romantic comedy Peeples, and knowing when to lighten up:

“I’m a goofy person. That’s how I ended up in Peeples. Tyler Perry saw me joking around…and said, ‘I had no idea you were this silly.”

NAACP Image Awards Coverage

Well, Denzel was not there, but there was enough star power in the room nonetheless to make up for his absence. The NAACP Image Awards this year crowned some new blood in Black Hollywood and if the industry is listening, it better get ready for bigger, better, faster, more! NCIS: Los Angeles star and rapper LL Cool J took home the trophy for best actor in a drama series and dedicated his award to the memory of fellow actor Michael Clarke Duncan, who died a few months ago. Legendary entertainer Harry Belafonte was also on hand to accept in person the Spingarn Medal. He was presented the award by another legend and friend Harry Belafonte. Although Poitier has been slowed down considerably by a stroke, he was poignant and clear in his acceptance speech.

The big winner of the night, however, was Kerry Washington. She took home three awards. One for her TV show ‘Scandal’, another for best supporting actress in ‘Django Unchained’, and the prestigous President’s Award. Washington’s star is definitely on the rise and although it is still obvious from last night’s telecast that her stylist is sabotaging her yet again (pastels from hell, Kerry? Really?!), perhaps the fashion fates can intervene and do her some justice for the Academy Awards?

Kerry Washington Loves Popcorn. And Lots Of It.

The beautiful and talented Kerry Washington covers the Women’s Health magazine cover for December’s issue. Washington, currently starring in the hit ABC Show Scandal and also coming out with a film: Django Unchained, the highly anticipated Quentin Tarantino film (opening on Christmas Day and costarring Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio) is looking fierce and fabulous! Check out the highlights from her interview with the mag below.

“One of the things that I really love most about my job is the research part of it. My mom’s a retired professor so I tend to approach my roles at first from the prospective of an academic almost. So, I studied a lot. It’s kind of hard to articulate the level of preparation that we all had to do for this film because so much of it was emotional and psychological preparation. It’s hard to talk about because we all had to go into a part of American history that is so dark and complicated and fraught with the past sins of this country.”

“If I wasn’t an actress, I would probably be a teacher. Either an elementary school teacher or a yoga teacher. Both of which I did when I was living in New York pursuing a career in acting. I liked doing both of those things very much. I think it would surprise people to know that what I really wanted to do as a child was to be the woman in the Shamu show at Sea World. And the big joke in my family is that I started taking Marine Biology and I was like, forget the whale, I’ll just be on stage by myself.”

“I am not a vegan, but I like vegan protein shakes. I mix them with coconut water instead of regular water. That’s my secret to having them taste better.”

“I love popcorn. I could live on popcorn. The writers of Scandal have made my character Olivia Pope have a similar relationship with popcorn. But I don’t mind because I get to eat popcorn at work.”

At the end of the first episode, she’s crying in a coat closet alone,” says Kerry about her character Olivia Pope. “I think that’s what a lot of us are dealing with in our lives—that we feel like we have to be so tough and so strong and have it all figured out. We live in a world where we do have the ability to be smart, bold, professional, talented women. But we also are vulnerable human beings, you know?”

“I am part of the president’s committee of the Arts and Humanities so I do work in Washington, but I don’t do what Olivia Pope does and I certainly don’t have her kind of relationship with the White House. I would never run for office. We get far enough rejection as actors.”

Girl is getting it!
