Celebrity Gossip Heard All Over The Web

Brittany Murphy Biopic is Set to Premiere on Lifetime

Lifetime has snagged another celebrity biopic, and this one is coming out sooner than expected! The network has just announced that a film about the late actress Brittany Murphy will premiere this fall.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, he two-hour film will cover Brittany’s childhood, how she got started acting, and her untimely and sad passing. The actress died in December 2009 at the age of 32 of pneumonia as ruled by the coroner. Her husband Simon Monjack died just five months later.

This biopic is the first to be made about the actress. Last Man Standing actress Amanda Fuller will play Brittany while Ray Donovan star Sherilyn Fenn will star as Sharon Murphy, Brittany’s mom. The Brittany Murphy Story will premiere on Sept. 6 on Lifetime.

I’m always interested to see biopics that detail a celeb’s life. It’s always captivating to watch how a famous person rose to stardom, and the ups and downs of that life. I’m hoping that Lifetime does it justice.

Bobbi Kristina Slams Angela Bassett Over Whitney Houston Biopic

Lifetime is filming the upcoming biopic about Whitney Houston, but her daughter Bobbi Kristina is NOT feeling it! Whitney’s daughter tweeted her anger about the project, slamming Angela Bassett, who will serve as director, in the process!

Angela gave an interview recently about the film to Entertainment Weekly, discussing why she didn’t cast Bobbi in the role. “I did not think about casting her. And probably for a number of reasons, you know. One being that she’s not an actress. I know she’s acted here and there. I know she’s been on their family’s reality show, but she’s not an actress and acting is a craft,” she explained. “It’s an attempt to illuminate the complexities of human behavior and life. And this is a very fast-paced schedule; we have just 21 days to tell this story. It’s more than just saying lines and turning the light on. You have to drive the story—there’s a technical aspect.”

Well, of course, Bobbi didn’t take that lying down! The 21-year-old tweeted, “Ha MsAng “bassketcase” has such a damn nerve my lord, at least the world doesn’t mistake me for the wrong sex…she has some #XtraEquipment.” She alos added, “When I win my first Grammy or Oscar, *Shrugs* hmm whichever comes 1st, I’ll be sure 2shout URname out b-tch! Hah UrTestResults = Male. Lmao.”

It was announced earlier in the month thatformer America’s Next Top Model contestant Yaya DeCosta would play Whitney. Unlike Bobbi, Yaya has real acting experience, working as a child actor, and also appearing on All My Children as well as Ugly Betty. The model has also been in hit films such as Lee Daniels’ The Butler and Tron: Legacy.

Bobbi Kristina is coming off really, REALLY bitter. Yes, I understand that your mother wanted you to play her, but baby girl, you have relatively NO acting experience! I’ve seen you in a few episodes of Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married, and that’s it. That small little role hardly warrants you starring in a movie, even if it is in the role of your mother. If you’re really serious about acting, take some classes, build up your experience, and maybe you can make it. I’m mad she tried going in on Angela Bassett like that!

Fans Start Online Petition to Stop Aaliyah Biopic

There are some Aaliyah fans out there are outraged at the idea of a biopic in honor of the late singer without the family’s consent. After singer/actress Zendaya Coleman confirmed that she would be playing Aaliyah in an upcoming Lifetime movie about the singer’s life, the Internet was ablaze with commentary, both good and bad. However, now an petition has made its way online to try to stop the film completely!

The petition, posted just two days ago, has close to 1,500 signatures. It reads:

“This petition is to stop the making of this Aaliyah biopic. It’s wrong that Aaliyah’s mother or brother didn’t have a say so in this movie that is being made. The fans didn’t get a say so and neither did any of Aaliyah’s friends. As her fans, we’re going to do anything in our power to stop this movie. Little do we know, this is hurting Mrs. Haughton and Rashad. They’re about to make something that didn’t even get approved from her family. That is beyond disrespectful. If you agree that this movie shouldn’t be made, you need to vote. If you really respect Aaliyah, you have to respect her mother and her brothers wishes. It’s only right. It was Aaliyah’s life. And they’re taking it too far now. We need to put a stop to this!”

Twinkie Byrd, the film’s casting director, came to Zendaya’s defense in a statement:

“Zendaya embodies everything you want in a Actress to play Aaliyah. She is a Poised, Professional, STRONG Actress (studied at California Shakespeare Theater and American Conservatory Theater). A Triple Threat Actor, Singer Dancer. She LOVES AALIYAH and will do a Wonderful Job! She is of mixed ethnicity. Her name is Bantu (Zimbabwe) meaning ‘To Give Thanks.'”

Zendaya herself was incredibly excited about the opportunity to play Aaliyah in this movie, regardless of the naysayers. She tweeted:

TMZ has reported that the Haughton family is incredibly angry, saying that Lifetime did not contact them regarding the biopic, and they will do everything that they can to block any use of Aaliyah’s music, and, ultimately, the release of the film.

DRAMA! It’s no secret that that the Haughtons were against a TV film for Aaliyah.  I do think that it was wrong if Lifetime has not reach out to them for consult or support. However, I will be watching when it comes out. I need to see if Zendaya has the talent to pull this off!

My Big Fat Greek Wedding Gets a Sequel!

Over a decade after its original release, looks like My Big Fat Greek Wedding is getting a sequel!

The film’s star and screenwriter, Nia Vardalos, announced today that a second movie is indeed in the works.  “Now that I’m experiencing motherhood, I’m ready to write the next chapter of my family story,” she said in a statement. “Of course, a few jaded folks in the press corps will claim I ran out of money or just want to kiss John Corbett [who played her fiance Ian Miller] again,” she joked. “One of these things is true.”

Nia will write the sequel, which Rita WilsonTom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman have signed on to produce. After the news was first announced, she tweeted, “Thank you for the love, yes the entire big fat family is invited back for the sequel.”

Nia starred as the unforgettable Toula Portokalos, the daughter of a huge Greek family, whose love life and career sucks, as she spends her days working in her family’s Greek restaurant. She eventually starts computer classes, gets a new job at her family’s travel agency, and meets the love of her life, Ian Miller. The movie did exceptionally well with a small budge of $5 million, bringing in $241.43 million at the domestic box office and an additional $127.3 million abroad, ultimately grossing $368.74 million.

In the 12 years since the film has been released, Nia has gone on to star in movies such as For a Good Time Call… and made cameos in TV shows including Grey’s Anatomy and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She also adopted a daughter Ilaria, 9, with her husband Ian Gomez in 2008, which she cites as an inspiration for the upcoming sequel.

The only question is will it do well? Have too many years passed, or will fans genuinely want to see a sequel. I’m excited regardless. I loved this movie. I thought it was so funny and cool when I first saw it. So even though it’s 12 years after the fact, I would be down to watch a sequel!

Do you think a sequel to My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a good idea, or should they shut that idea down?

Tyra Banks Confirms Life-Size Sequel in the Works!

Where you live, where you are, BE A STAR! I never imagined this happening, but Tyra Banks has officially confirmed that there is a Life-Size sequel in the works.

Tyra admitted Digital Spy that a sequel is coming soon. “I have a meeting today to go over the script!” she said. “I swear! I don’t think it’ll be out until probably 2015, but I’m guessing it could be late 2014 or 2015. but it will be back. Life-Size will be back, better than ever.” She’s under contract not to say anything for now, but claims that the sequel will be “very modern.”

The original film was released back in 2000 and starred Lindsay Lohan as Casey Stuart, a tween who tried to bring her deceased mother back with a magic spell. Instead, she ends up bringing her doll Eve (played by Tyra) to life. It’s a Disney classic…at least to me!

The little kid in me is freaking out over this news. I KNOW I am not the only who remembers and loved this movie! I’m really hoping that Lindsay is apart of this sequel as well. I’ll still watch regardless, but she and Tyra again would be magic! For all the other fans, this is for you.

Film Critic Roger Ebert Dead At 70

Sadly, legendary film critic Roger Ebert has died at the age of 70 from thyroid cancer. Just on April 2, he revealed on his blog that  his cancer had returned and that he would be reducing his reviews down at the Chicago Sun-Times.

Mr. Ebert wrote that he would be taking a “leave of presence,” so he could engage in radiation treatment. “It means I am not going away,” he explained. “My intent is to continue to write selected reviews but to leave the rest to a talented team of writers handpicked and greatly admired by me. What’s more, I’ll be able at last to do what I’ve always fantasized about doing: reviewing only the movies I want to review.”

The film critic was first diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2002, and cancerous growths were found on his salivary glands a year later. He had multiple surgeries that left him without the ability to speak.

Mr. Ebert began working at the Chicago Sun-Times as a film critic 46 years ago, and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1975. His film reviews became legendary, with his fan base building to millions.

What was great about him is that he did not pity himself, nor expected pity from others, for his condition. He kept moving, and doing what he loved–reviewing films! He will be greatly missed. Thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Chaz, and the rest of his family and friends.
