Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres welcomes DREW BARRYMORE on Thursday, December 6th, in her first talk show appearance since the birth of her daughter, Olive. Drew talks about being a new mom, how she came up with the name Olive and how her 10 week old daughter is really impressing her.
Check out the highlights from the interview below.
Ellen: …I’m happy you got married. It’s the best thing in the world that you’re in love and happy so, congratulations on that.
Drew: I’m so lucky. It’s amazing. I never take it for granted.
Ellen: That’s a fantastic thing in and of itself and then you have a little baby. How old is your baby now?
Drew: She is actually 10 weeks today. I know, I can’t even handle it. It’s hurts…
Ellen: And, you didn’t bring her here? I was hoping you would bring her.
Drew: I know that should have been the surprise.
Ellen: Yes, I should of seen the baby. How do you even leave her? It must be so hard.
Drew: It’s awful. I didn’t like leaving today at all. I dance and jump up and down for her a lot and I have this routine where I’m like, bye, ok I’ll be right back..she just you know (reenacts the baby’s look.) There is nothing greater in the world. I live, I exercise my right every second of everyday to make her laugh and smile and she’s a really happy baby.
Ellen: Oh, that’s good.
Drew: She’s so nice.
Ellen: And her name?
Ellen: Her name is Olive, which I love that name.
Drew: I love that name.
Ellen: I do too. How did you come up with Olive?
Drew: I never would of guessed that would of been the name. But I was reading a book with my husband. I was three months pregnant and they said your baby is the size of an Olive and that was it. We never looked back.
Ellen: It could have been the size of a peanut or a grapefruit…
Drew: It could have been. It was a lot fruit and vegetables
Ellen: It could have been names kidney bean?
Drew: Kidney’s not such a fun name.
Ellen: Olive’s great. Did you have another one in mind and then you just all the sudden changed it to Olive?
Drew: We were work shopping a few, as all people do who are so blessed to get to do this do. And then once the light was shed. There was just no turning back.
Ellen: Did you try and wait or did you know it was a girl? Did you want to know a head of time?
Drew: Yeah, I figured there’s so many surprises to come…Every phase of her life that I will be trying to master. There are plenty of surprises.
Ellen: And you were telling me back stage that she’s good. And sleeps and she’s a good baby.
Drew: She is a good baby.
Ellen: You’re lucky, That’s really great.
Drew: I know, I count my lucky stars every day because she is…and really interactive and happy and like nice to people. She’s a nice person.
Ellen: How nice can she be to people? She’s 10 weeks old.
Drew: She is selling it. She is working it….It’s so great.
Ellen: No, after you please…
Drew: She will be that way. Gratitude and manners is key.
Ellen: I bet you’re teaching her that.
Drew: I am.
Ellen: I’m just saying that you’re kind of a little bit crazy right now…(Laughing)
Drew: You and my husband. He will so happy to hear you say this, wherever he is watching.
Ellen: She’s only ten weeks old but you’re lucky..Because you hear stories like that…she’s so good and she sleeps all night. You’re the people that lure other people in and they’re like my baby doesn’t do that.
Drew: …I will say Olive is a definite ambassador to having lots of babies. I have met babies who are screaming and they’re crying and they’re trying to convey all these things and you get so terrified and overwhelmed. I’ m very grateful to her. She really has it together…She’s really impressing me..
Ellen: Again, to say she has it together…Again,is a bit premature…
We’re all waiting for an announcement, girl!
