Celebrity Gossip Heard All Over The Web

Nicki Minaj Discusses Work Ethic and Career Goals in Billboard Magazine

Nicki Minaj has been getting interviews left and right in promotion for her upcoming album, The Pink Print! The rapper recently snagged the cover of Billboard magazine, discussing how hard she really grinds and long term goals for her career.

Check out some of the highlights of the interview below!

On doing the behind-the-scenes work herself…because she has a brain
“I’m on 15 to 25 conference calls every few days strategizing with my team. I think a lot of artists sit back and have it done for them. Sometimes as women in the industry — if you’re sexy or like doing sexy things — some people subconsciously negate your brain. They think you’re stupid.”

On never resting on her laurels
“It’s corny when rappers feel like they’ve made it and they don’t have to prove themselves anymore. You should always be competing. You should always be trying to show that you’re the best. My album is going to be important to hip-hop.”

On those backhanded compliments
“Once I did American Idol, a lot of people would come up to me and say, ‘Oh, you’re smarter than I thought.’ “What does that mean?!”

On long-term goals
“I was just a little kid in Southside Jamaica, Queens, hoping one day I would have my own perfume. And now I have three.”

The full cover story is set to come out later today, Nov. 7!

Though I haven’t always been in support of everything Nicki has done in her career, I admire her work ethic. She hasn’t stopped, and now, regardless of how anyone feels about it, she’s on top of the world!

Maroon 5 vs. Gangam Style on Billboard

I have no shame in my fingers when I write that I am completely in love with this new sensation on the charts now. This ‘Gangnam Style’ song is the sh*t and I dare you all to try and escape it!  This week, the song by Korean rapper PSY is #2 on the Billboard charts and it is all but a foregone conclusion that it will take down Maroon 5 from the top slot, where they presently stand with the song ‘One More Night’. Now, I speak English and understand everything culturally, but for the life of me, I have no idea what is going on in that damn video! Can someone help me out?!

Any-Adam-Levine-is-hot-so-who-bothers-to-pay-attention-to-plot-points?-way, PSY’s international hit is steamrolling its way through America and is about to be the newest dance craze since The Macarena. So while I am already forecasting the winners for next week, let me take a moment to tell you of someone who will not be on that podium.

Xtina.

Her new single and video, where she pulls out all the titty balls stops, is not completely dead in the water, but… it is meandering and probably will not be cracking the top 10 next week, if ever. Maybe Christina should have re-thought leaving The Voice to go on a tour promote an album that may not even sell?

Someone might have to pry Shakira out of that chair six months from now.

Nicki Minaj’s Hated “Starships” Breaks Billboard Record

Nicki Minaj‘s song Starships may be annoying to those at radio (particularly Paul Rosenberg), but apparently the mainstream peeps (YOU) love it because Nicki has just made Billboard history. You know Nicki is saying, “take that, haters!”

According to pop charts, Nicki has become THE first artist to boast TWENTY ONE successive weeks in the top 10 with one single. Even though I’m not a big fan of the song, it is a pretty impressive feat, depending on how you look at it. Either everyone else sucks and the competition is lame or Starships is really freakin’ awesome.

To put this all in perspective, by staying in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 200 this week, it has been on the charts one week longer than the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling”.

Congratulations, lady!

Richard Marx Shares Stories With Billboard

As you can imagine, veteran hit maker Richard Marx has more than a few stories to tell, and he recently sat down to share a few of those memories about his #1 hits like “Hold On To The Nights,” “Right Here Waiting,” and “Satisfied” as part of a new video series from Billboard to celebrate reaching 1,000 No. 1 songs on its Hot 100 chart.  See what he had to say after the jump!
